Individuals with a net worth of over one million dollars (two million for
married couples), the year of 2011 is looming large. The current estate tax laws
are in place to subject the value in excess of these thresholds to a federal
estate tax. Although there is hope that Congress will act before these “sunset
provisions” of the tax code come into play, we believe that clients should
prepared for the possible reality that equity and fairness will not reign in
this area.
The professionals at TWRU work with our clients and their attorney in
identifying strategies that will minimize this tax on one’s accumulated net
worth and to provide for the orderly transfer of these assets in accordance with
the client’s desires and wishes—whether that be to family members or to
charities that provide ‘for the greater good” of humanity.
